Wall of Hair: Imagining Future Uses by Sanne Visser

Wall of Hair: Imagining Future Uses by Sanne Visser

Sanne Visser, GSC Research Partner and designer extraordinaire, recently presented WALL OF HAIR at Milan Design Week. Sanne invited people to think how they like their hair to be used in the near future and what the main purpose would be leading to equitable futures.

Here's what Sanne had to say about the project:

"Over a 100 haircuts this week and thousands of visitors (one day BASE had a record of 10.000 in a day!!) I cannot thank you all enough for coming and taking the time to see my work but definitely (if not more so) to be a part of it. I hope it inspired you to think about our collective, locally grown material of hair and see it from a different perspective.

For the people that weren’t in Milan, for the WALL OF HAIR I’d invited people to think how they like their hair to be used in the near future and what the main purpose would be leading to equitable futures. See some of the wonderful, inspiring and fun thoughts here.

LOCALLY GROWN is the design research project I showcased during the Milan Design Week. The redesigned tools (including a chair that catches you hair as you get it cut!) were displayed, which were some of the outcomes as part of my residency at the Design Museum."

Whilst we've got over 10 different ways to recycle and reuse hair, there's definitely some new ideas and inspiration to be found here! Want to learn more about Sanne and GSC? Here's a blog post about Sanne and our previous collaboration making hair rope.
