Wella Professionals has announced an industry leading partnership with Green Salon Collective. Founded earlier this year by environmental experts, hairdressers and eco campaigners, the aim of the Collective is to reduce waste in the hairdressing industry and help salons begin their journey towards a more sustainable future.
Wella Professionals is committed to sustainability and protecting the beauty of the planet. The launch of this partnership with the original authority on salon sustainability, coincides with the increased demand among consumers to live more environmentally consious lives and to utilise products and services that have as little impact on the environment as possible.
“It is our responsibility to help our consumers and salon partners make a positive impact on the planet. This partnership will be a game changer for the salon industry and Wella Professionals, enabling salons to become more environmentally conscious.” Nick van Holstein, The Wella Company UK & Ireland General Manager.
Currently, in the UK, the hairdressing industry recycles just 20% of the plastic it uses. Salons are increasingly conscious of the waste they need to dispose of, which includes chemicals, used foils, colour tubes, empty product packaging and hair. As they consume more plastic, paper, water and energy than other shops on the high street, salons are looking to reduce their environmental footprint. Together Wella Professionals and Green Salon Collective will educate salons on sustainability and help them implement systems to ensure they recycle almost all of their salon waste.
All three Wella Professionals Studios, located in London, Manchester and Dublin, will implement Green Salon Collective's comprehensive recycling system. All waste generated from their programme of education seminars will be re-used or re-cycled. Through the partnership, over 10,000 salons in the Wella Professionals network will be offered a 15% discount on their opening order and offered training and support on sustainability. Upon purchasing a starter kit, salons will be provided with separation kits for hair, metals & chemicals, preventing them being sent to landfill. Salons also have the choice to add extra bins for plastics, PPE and paper. In-salon marketing, ongoing support and the 'Green Bible' on all matters regarding sustainability are also included in the scheme.
