HAIR ROPE MAKING

W/ SANNE VISSER, CENTRE FOR CIRCULAR DESIGN

Green Salon Collective's very first research partner is an expert at hair rope making. Sanne Visser has been working with hair as a material for over seven years and it has been her key material in her studio work, a unique feature in her teaching at the Centre for Circular Design and the central focus of her PhD research.

She has worked with Nike, presented at Tate and Science Gallery Dublin, exhibited at Milan Design Week (all pictured below) and more! She is now one of only four Design Researcher in Residence at the Design Museum in London.

A part of our partnership with Sanne is a collaboration to bring her craft to our members, partners and wider community. We have created a truly unique workshop where people try their hands at making hair rope using Sanne's own creation: Rope Machine 2.0 (pictured as feature image; credit Gabriela Gesheva; also pictured below).

Sanne then guides attendees to fashion their hair rope into hanging planters like the one you see here.

We have commissioned a limited series of 100% recycled plastic plant pots from Relic which are exclusively for our workshops (pictured right/bottom | photo credit: Relic).

We hope for our workshop to inspire people to consider human hair waste not as rubbish but as a useful and perhaps aesthetically pleasing material. It is part of our mission to #KillLandfill.

Soft launch date: 28 February 2022 | Location: Hunter Collective Spitalfields, London

We will post all future workshop dates and locations here, on our events calendar as well as on our social media channels. For private and corporate workshop enquiries, email fry@greensaloncollective.com
